Inflammation and Post-Polio Sequalae

Dr. Bruno’s Post:  INFLAMMATION IS NOT A POST-POLIO SEQUELAE

A survivor’s daughter, a nurse, asked a fascinating question:

Do polio survivors have more inflammatory diseases (like rheumatoid arthritis), lupus and an elevated sedimentation rate, which is an indicator of inflammation. The answer to all three is no.

What's more, inflammation does NOT cause PPS.

Here is a summary about studies of markers of inflammation and muscle breakdown in the article: Is there a Blood Test for Post-Polio Muscle Pain?

You can find this article and others, under the topic Muscle Pain in the Index of the Encyclopedia of Polio and PPS.
